TDCC'13
I first listened to Two Door Cinema Club back in 2011, when my friend Sharmain introduced it to me. (I wouldn't say introduced as much as raved about them so I checked them out...) I was pretty much hooked from first listen, and I've never looked back since. I guess it's only fair that I point out that during my J1 year, my music library was filled with about 90% Korean music and 10% everything else. However, before you start freaking out and judging my taste in music because an exceedingly huge amount of people dislike K-Pop, I would like to put out a disclaimer and say that I've been into K-Pop (or just Korean music in general) since I was 8, back in 2002, long before bands like Super Junior or Girl's Generation or Big Bang were formed. It was the earliest stages of the Hallyu Wave, led by tearjerker dramas, so most of the music I listened to was nothing like the songs you hear today. And for the record, I'm not a huge fan of all the new bands popping up nowadays with ridiculous sounding names and all-too-generic tunes.
But I digress from the topic at hand.
So, as I was saying, Sharmain introduced me to good music (not saying K-Pop isn't, just that in my very honest opinion, it has deproved over the years). Hence, last year, when I heard that Two Door Cinema Club was coming to Singapore, I was beyond excited. When they first visited in 2011, I was too much of an indie-virgin to consider going, which I regret to this day. Well, let's just say I'm very, very glad that I went this time because it was a real blast. I went with Sue, whom I knew from my K-pop days, and my junior from IJC, Putera. At the very last minute, he asked if his junior from Woodlands Sec could come, so I agreed, because, hey, as cliches go, the more the merrier, right?
Sue and I had decided on a cheaper category because we decided that we were really going for the music. It wasn't a bad choice, actually. While we couldn't touch Kevin's shoes or hands (which Putera did), I'd say we enjoyed ourselves very much. The crowd up where we were was great. We sang along, danced and all. The only thing was we couldn't really mosh like those who were in Cat 1 because it was kind of scary to be jumping all the way up there. If you've been to the Esplanade's Circle 3, you would understand. I legitly imagined some over-enthusiastic fan jumping and falling off the banister. I need to seriously reconsider the shows I watch.
That was how high up I was. The blue area you see is the stage HAHAHA. Now you know why I didn't want to risk jumping, falling and most definitely dying. And probably killing the people I fall on in the process.
After the concert, TDCC #1 fan, Putera queued up for the meet-and-greet while Sue and I blindly looked for the Main Foyer (which was where the M&G was going to be held). We were confronted by lines everywhere so we were utterly confused. In the end, though, we located Putera, who was happily clutching his bag of new TDCC t-shirts which he wanted to get autographed. Judging by his position in the line, he was set to wait for over an hour to get autographs. I was supposed to wait for him, so Sue went off first. I, on the other hand, was not really eager to queue up for hours to get their autographs (because the line was impossibly long and I had a curfew, barring which I would've stood in that line like all the other fans). I really wanted a t-shirt though, because they looked really nice and... Well, if I wasn't gonna get an autograph...
Pretty, isn't it? ^_^
In the end, Putera decided he didn't want to wait for the boys because the line wasn't moving at all. So he left the queue, and as it happens all the time, the boys came out right at that moment. He still regrets it. Before we left the really crowded venue, though, we had to take an obligatory instax photo. We approached a guy who turned out to be a foreigner who didn't really know how to speak English nor use the instax camera, hence you see a lot of empty space above us in the picture below. Nevertheless, a wonderful picture to sum up our wonderful night!
